Traumatic Wednesday

Last night we had chicken wings and frozen french fries for dinner. After we finished eating, and felt like crap, I decided I was making dinner for sure tonight. I got up this morning and started looking through my new crockpot cookbook because I wanted dinner to be ready when I got home. So I had breakfast and my coffee, took a letter out to the mailbox, and got ready to go to the store. I was walking out to my car and heard a tiny tiny and almost constant meowing...I'm not kidding you, my first thought was "hm. That must be one of those cat-bird things." I think I've heard of a bird that cries like a cat, but I could have imagined that. Anyway, I looked around because it sounded pretty bad, and I noticed this little guy.

I'm not a cat person. At. All. I have never had a cat, and I have never felt the desire to have a cat. When it comes to owning a cat, my heart is almost made of stone. The first time I heard Joshua say that sometime in the future he'd like to get a cat, I panicked a little inside. I don't mind other peoples cats, I actually like some peoples cats, I just don't want to own one. Cats are too smart. I like dogs, they're dumb and always love you. Back to my story. It took me a little while to get this little guy to come to me. Once I got him, we walked over to the neighbors to give him back to her. She had obviously lost her kitten. We have two cats that run around our house. We know this because every time they are near, our dogs sound the alarm that a cat is within 100 feet of our house. It's obnoxious. So anyway, I went over, and she didn't answer. So we came back and sat on the porch to figure out what to do. This is us.

I don't know the first thing about taking care of a cat. If it were a dog I'd be fine. I've never even held a kitten before. I was as panicked as he was. I was mostly panicked because it was obvious that he wasn't very healthy. I think his mama abandoned him because there is something wrong with him. He has some type of eye infection, and his lids are sealed shut. I've done some research and he may be blind depending on how long they've been closed. It makes me want to cry thinking about it. While we were sitting on the steps trying to figure out what to do, the neighbor came out, and I was so relieved to see her. I went over and said, "you have a cat don't you?" I had a feeling that this wasn't her kitten. She looked at it and said "oh no, that's yours now". The strays built themselves a nice little home under her gazebo and had themselves a family. She isn't a cat person either. I guess the two other kittens still live under her gazebo, and their eyes are open. So I knew I couldn't just put him back on the ground and go my own way. Stupid feelings. I talked to the neighbor for a few minutes and decided I needed to take it to the SPCA/Animal Control. This is us in the car on our way.

He is the cutest thing ever.

I really didn't want to take him there, but I didn't know what to do for him. I was actually worried that he might die, and wanted to get him to a vet as soon as I could. If he had been a healthy cat, I probably would have kept him. He was so sweet. This picture is when I dropped him off, and it's also when I started crying like a big fat baby. It was awful.

I never thought that in a half an hour I could fall in love with a kitten. I'm sure someone will adopt him, people love kittens. I just hope he's okay.

  1. Now how many times are you going to go back and ask about him? :)
ps. my mom called both of the bridal shops in FW today. She asked if they had one of the dresses I liked and what size. They almost didn't tell her until she said she wouldn't recommend them to anyone. haha. The lady came back on the phone and acted all nice and everything.

  2. Awww. That is soo sad! Our familys first cat, Libby, was found on the side of a road and her eyes were like that. She wasn't blind or anything, just was a little sick. We had to feed her a bottle and everything. You did a good thing though! I'll pray that next time it's a healthy cat, for Josh's sake of course! ;-]

  3. Sarah! I never thought of calling! Darn you, now I'm going to have to force myself to not be the crazy cat lady calling animal control! :)

  4. Allison, I'll pray that there is no "next time". haha. :)
