I previously posted about us canceling our cable, so far we both love it. Joshua got called into work on Friday and worked until pretty late Friday night. I came home from work and started cleaning the entire house like a psycho. I put a CD in his PS3 and listened to music through the television all night. I noticed while I was cleaning the living room that we had it set up so that the television was the main focal point. It is rather hard not to since it's hanging halfway up the wall basically staring at you. Anyway, I decided that since we're not going to be watching as much televsion, the focus shouldn't be on it. On Saturday morning I decided to rearrange. It wasn't a big move, but putting the chairs in the corners really opened up the living room and made it more inviting. I think it's easier for conversation now because the person sitting in the chair doesn't have to turn to talk to the person on the couch. I really like it.
Now I really want to get a different entertainment center. I love the one we have because it's so minimal, and clean, but now I want something with doors that can close over the television so we don't have to see it all the time. I saw a show on HGTV where they made one...but they had expert carpenters doing it, so I'm sure it would be much easier for me to purchase one. But that's a "someday" thing, not an "immediately" project. :)
I couldn't find any great pictures of what I'm thinking of, but this is the general idea. I hate feeling like when I'm in the room with the television it should be on. With something like this it won't be glaring at me all the time. Hopefully I can learn to ignore it. :)

I have the same TV stand that you do!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't solve this problem.... well maybe. IKEA trip sounds fun :) Actually I might get to go next week if we go dress shopping over there, now just to convince the moms!
ReplyDeleteAmy...how funny...are you guys Wal-Mart shoppers too?? It took Josh almost an entire day to put it together, he said it was rough. :)
ReplyDeleteSarah...I NEED to go to IKEA but can't get anyone (Joshua) to go with me. I want to go so bad! I'm planning on getting our bed and matching/a nice dresser. Maybe soon.
