Can You Imagine?

If food were priced by calories? Say total calories per item. 1 calorie = 1 cent.

That would make a carton of Brussels sprouts (the ones I buy) $2.25 (225 calories per carton).

It would make a 16 oz bag of Original Lay's Chips: $24.00 (2400 calories per bag).

One pint of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough would cost you: $10.20 (1020 calories per pint).

A cucumber would cost: $.45 (45 calories per medium size cucumber).

Would we be a healthier country, or poorer?

Interesting thought.

It would make the price of eggs skyrocket, to nearly $12 per dozen (90 calories per large egg). I'm not saying it's flawless, but it makes you think.

The reason why I thought of this in the first place is that I typically go to the grocery after I leave the gym. I don't like to get the protein shakes out of the gym vending machine, because they're expensive and taste like crap. A couple grocery trips ago I saw these and picked them up to try them.

These are awesome fruit snacks. I can't find much info on their home page, and of course I've thrown the packages away, but they're made with all real fruit, no preservatives, and they taste delicious. One package is around 90 calories, and at Walmart they cost $.88.

Now my thought process doesn't seem so crazy, huh?
