Easy Read

A long time ago, my cousin Carsyn told me to read this book. I have never watched an episode of the Chelsea Handler Show nor do I know anything about her, besides the fact that she's a comedian.

I really didn't have any expectations going into this book, but everyone had told me that its hilarious.

Here is the synopsis from bn.com.

"When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power -- vodka. You would too if you found out that your boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo or if you had to pretend to be honeymooning with your father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea's world -- a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.

In this hilarious, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she's convincing her third-grade class that she has been tapped to play Goldie Hawn's daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations. Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea showcases the candor and irresistible turns of phrase that have made her one of the freshest voices in comedy today."

I'm sure you get this, but this book and Fearless are worlds apart from each other. This book, Are You There Vodka... was good. Parts of it I didn't entirely enjoy reading, but there were a few days I had to put it down because I was laughing at work and getting funny looks.

This is another that I wouldn't buy, but check out from a library if you're looking for carefree, no thinking, reading.

I'm still working on quite a few other books.

I started this one today at lunch. It is a pretty thin book, so I may try to stick it out. I didn't feel so hot today and that may be the reason I wasn't so into reading it. I'll give it a couple more days to see if it grows on me.

Megan bought this book and just loaned it to me to read. She said it was good. I'll fill you in with my opinion when I finish it.

This one is waiting for me on the hold shelf at the library. I read her last book, Barefoot and liked it. It was different than what I usually read, but decided I wanted to give this book a chance.
Megan still has this book, but it is on my list to read once she's finished with it...no rush, I've got a long list.

What are you reading this summer??
