Music

This was a good Christmas for me and my siblings in the area of music. All three of us got new music players. I've been calling them iPods and Joshua corrects me every time.

Being that they're not Apple products, I got a hands-on lesson regarding the difficulty of using both iTunes and Windows Media Player. Not so much difficulty, but general crappiness.

Before this mp3 player I just got, I've always had iPods. More specific I've always had a Shuffle. I had three different versions of it. I never really understood paying more for the higher end ones, because all I needed was something to listen to. My Shuffles did me well. My very last blue one died a tragic death about a month ago in our dryer. If we're being honest, I'll say it was probably already dead by the time it made it to the dryer. Most likely the cause of death was drowning.

Anyway, onto a brighter subject. (I'm supposed to be cooking dinner right now, but I'm blogging instead.)

I got this Phillips GoGear Vibe for Christmas, and it rocks very much.

The reason why I've had so many different iPods is because I get tired of them. I'll use it for the first month or so, and then remember why I never use one. I don't like to have it when I'm lifting because it always gets in the way. The earbuds never fit right, and always fly out of my ears when I get the cord stuck between two plates. It's a hard hard life. (First world problems, right Eric?) They always end up being appropriated by Joshua anyway when he needs a replacement player.

All this running business is a different story though. I had music when I ran my mile the other day, and it was awesome. I'm so talented that I can listen in one ear to my music, and Ingrid in the other ear being bossy.

Moral of the story being that I'm pretty pumped about this iPhillips. That's what I call it since my husband finds it so pertinent to correct me when I call it an iPod.

So, for someone who doesn't usually listen to music, I didn't know what songs to put on the thing. I found this site, jog.fm where they list the beats per minute for songs. There are people who believe that bpm help you keep pace, and people who don't. I'm not either, I just don't want to have the soundtrack from Hope Floats playing when I'm trying to stay in beast mode. (I don't actually own that soundtrack. Or that movie I guess. I'm still looking for mine if you have it.)

Combined with jog.fm and other songs I pieced together, here is my playlist so far. Make fun. Yes, that is Willow Smith. I don't care.

The dumbest part of all of this, is that I buy the music from iTunes, put it in a playlist, have to burn it to a CD, import that CD to Windows Media and then sync my iPhillips with the music. It is insanely stupid, but I don't know any other way around it.

Since I'm the last person in the world to start listening to music while working out, what music do you listen to? How do you choose?

  1. I have downloaded music (free) from www.rockmyrun.com Variety of music, I go for the 80's stuff. Didn't think I would like the shorter versions of the songs, but this way one doesn't get "bored" and music changes keep the interest up during running. I had never used music while running until recently. Got myself a iPod Nano (and I'm always screwing up the name of it too!).
