Here's The Thing...

I would love to be able to afford to quit work right now and start a family. I would love to have kids right now, but I want to be able to stay home with them. I don't want to send them to daycare, and I would also like to be able to cover bills without help from my tiny barely significant income.

I've been trying to think of ways I can work from home. I know of a couple women who do alterations out of their homes. I read one blog of a girl who stays at home and makes stationary to sell on the internet.

But what talent can I exploit to get to my dream before I'm 50?

What do you think? I don't know how to sew. I don't really know anything artsy.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm asking you guys because as viewers from the outside of my life, it may be easier to see from your perspective than mine.

I know once I realize it I'll wonder why I hadn't a long time ago. Life.

  1. I hear ya. I know I could never SAH with kids, though.

Maybe online tutoring? I think that pays well!

  3. Not really sure how it would work. But your biggest talent is cooking!!! I think you could really tap into that and find something. Cook for different places, bake sales, maybe make up your own recipes and make a cook book! I don't know how it would all work but there is potential with your cooking!

  4. first thing you should do is try to life off one income. Save all the money you make in one account. For as long as you like, one year, two years, then have a baby!!! And when you do you will have already realized where to cut costs to be able to afford SAHM life. PLUS you will have all that money you saved for emergencies!!! You should also look into re-usable diapers. They may be pricey but in the long run you will save upwards to $1500 in two years alone! I helped save money with Malakhi by simply making all his baby food instead of buying jars. Good luck!!! And FYI your never financially ready to have kids ;)

  5. Amy - I looked into the tutoring online. I applied at two different sites, but it looks like they're mainly interested in math and science. :( Boo. I still put my app in, maybe someone will need history help soon. :)

amy and Sarah - you guys are really making me think. I wonder what I could do with cooking. I'm not a pro, by far, but I'm going to keep thinking of a way to make that one work.

Lisa - Trying to live on one income would really be a great way to tell if we can afford it or not. I'm definitely going to keep that in mind.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys!

  6. I agree with Amy & Sarah! Your cooking always looks sooo good. Maybe you could start off with different types of cookies and sell them as gifts, like Cheryl&Co(http://www.cherylandco.com/). I've been meaning to order from Cheryl & Co to send to a couple of places but I haven't done it yet... You interested? lol
