Please Explain

Do you balance your checkbook? I don't. What I do is keep track of my purchases on my bank's website. I have been told twice in the past week that I have to learn how to balance my checkbook. One of those people was my mom. But she won't explain why I have to do it. I get a bad attitude when people tell me I have to do anything. I don't have to do my check book. I don't have to have a fountain in my wedding cake. I don't have to make my bridesmaids all match each other. I don't have to do anything except eat, bathe, and be sheltered. I have those covered.

So can someone please explain to me why I have to balance my checkbook?

Thank you.

  1. To make moms happy and thats about it. I used to do it and now I just use the internet.... if I feel like it. I know there is money their and I know what I have to buy/pay. Maybe when I'm on a tighter budget but I think I will still just use the internet. I really think thats the "new age" way that only we are used to :)

  2. I still balance my checkbook! I do it because I want to be 100% sure that I'm not over spending on my credit or debit card so all purchases go in to include that so I don't end up in debt. I also do it because there are some purchases that take 2-3 days to show up and if you're wanting to get something but forgot about a purchase you might think you have money that you don't have. Also-- people dont tend to cash their checks right away, so once again you might think you have more money than you actually do.. =]

  3. Maybe I'll try it...I really think I stay on top of it enough in my head and on my bank website. :/ We'll see.
