Wedding Guest List Issue

Ok, it's not an issue yet, but I don't know how to compile a guest list. Who do I invite, who don't I invite? I work with about 80 people (attorneys included, about 40 staff members), surely I won't invite them all, because I don't like them all, but I would feel awful if I invited 30 staff members and the other ten were left out. I don't like hurting peoples feelings. Any suggestions??

  1. Guests lists are very hard to come about-- you feel you want EVERYONE you know to be there for the day. However it is fairly unrealistic, unless you plan on spending bookoo bucks on feeding them all! We kept it to family and close friends. I didn't invite anyone from work, and we refused to let our parents invite people they work with and have never met. Granted-- it would have been nice to have some of those doctor gifts, but face it. They don't know me on a personal level so why bother?? It wasn't about that to us anyway.
Think about what you want. Do you want a HUGE wedding or would you like to keep it to the people closest to you?
And to be honest, Matt didn't even invite some of his extended family because he said that he never talks to them and he only wanted people that are actually in his life to be there. This didn't go over too well with his mom, but it wasn't her wedding. Which made it not her decision to make. It sounds mean, but we couldn't afford to have a 500 person wedding. A 200 person wedding was expensive enough.
This is how I did it. I sat down with a blank piece of paper and wrote down everyone I could think of that I would want to invite. If I couldn't think of them with out looking thru my contacts on my phone, email, phone book, ect. then they simply weren't worth inviting to me. If they hadn't made an inpact on my life in some way for me to remember them, eh- they'll live.
    Just my thoughts. --AlliB
